Fifth Avenue from my eyes...

Updated: Jan 26, 2020

Fifth Avenue, one of the most famous streets for fashion on the planet. Having recently been lucky enough to visit, I've decided to share some of my highlights.

Coach :

Probably the most unexpected stand out store for me was Coach; this is largely to do to the huge eye catching dinosaur made completely of Coach bags and standing at over 10ft tall. This sculpture has the power to draw customers, tourists and visitors in off the street, just for a photo with their clever piece of visual marketing.

Nike :

The Nike on Fifth Avenue is 'the' Nike store. Spreading across four floors the designers of this space have absolutely nailed it. Their use of digital marketing with print, lens and space combines perfectly, creating a completely immersive experience, the highlight being the 'Sneaker Lab' on the top floor. What caught my eye in particular was the range of mannequins used throughout the store, celebrating body diversity and appreciating how activewear can be worn by all shapes and sizes.

Miu Miu :

Miu Miu was one of the more simplistic retail spaces on Fifth, focusing on textured details in the wallpapers along with the perfectly matched carpets and furniture. When in this store it was obvious that the reserved but still luxurious interiors were designed to compliment and showcase each and every product of theirs. The eccentricity and boldness of Miu Miu designs paired with this very classic way of displaying their pieces made their store stand out to me in a very crowded market.

Louis Vuiton :

Louis Vuiton was the very first store I visited in New York and quite simply it blew me away. Firstly by their window displays but then by the natural class and elegance inside. LV used the idea of blocked out spaces displaying individual products as a template, similar to many designer stores in the area, however their space somehow worked more with their products as if they became part of the space too. Whether this was the lighting or colour pallette used, the extremely ordered approach to retail seems to be the trend for Fifth Avenue.

Overall I was pretty taken aback by the incredible standard of retail space whilst in New York. The range of visual merchandising paired with the unique customer service, level of detail and most importantly quality of everything on display made my visit extremely memorable. It helped me see Fifth Avenue from both a tourist, customer, and perhaps even slightly from industry eyes too.
