Social Media Takeover

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Theres no way to avoid it now. Social media is our way of communication. Whether it's a zoom with work or school, a houseparty with family or mates, snapchat streaks, instagram stories, virtual quizes and concerts or online workouts everyone is using something to get through the isolation.

I am finding it fascinating to see how people who once didn't even approve or use social media to now be making daily tiktoks just because of the 'situation'. I think this pandemic is going to change the way we use the digital world of communication even long past the lockdown.

For example Instagram stories. Normally filled with cute posts of people's catch ups, holidays, nights out etc are now filled with the Run 5, Donate 5, Nominate 5 challenge bringing people together using the platform and peoples networks for good, raising money for a desperate cause, keeping the world active and connected.

Tiktok is an app that's taken off hugely and become a daily chuckle for a range of people the creators probably thought would never interact with it, since the pandemic began. There is such a massive need to keep spirits up when so many can easily find the separating extremely lonely, so having a scroll on here can provide a the laughs we all need at a time like this.

Microsoft teams and zoom are two platforms I hadn't come across before COVID along with many others who now rely on these methods of communication to keep businesses and educations going. I think it's amazing what people can achieve when they have to, and I think this is going to change the way people work forever. Having realised how easy it is to hold meetings all over the UK and even further will potentially save thousands on travel fair as well as the environment suffering from less pollution. Amongst the madness we have to find some positives, of which there are a few.

It will be interesting this time next year, when we all hope to be Corona free to look back and see what has continued to have an impact and what went down as the norm during those awful times.
