Bringing Bling to Boxing

Updated: Jun 3, 2020

Sophie Whittam has revolutionised a thriving and competitive industry by using her skills from a sport of the opposite nature to influence and develop her designs making them the best a boxer can buy.

Growing up she was a driven and extremely motivated young woman. This is evident in the quantity of jobs and hobbies she undertook at a time, however with the one thing that stuck other than her love for fashion was figure skating. Being an athlete herself as well as studying fashion design she was taught how to create garments as well as design them, meaning she began by making her and her teammates costumes for competing in. In a world of lycra and sparkles her designs were extremely bold and included every last piece of the fabric on display. At the end of her career in skating this influence of level of attention to detail has had a clear impact on the designs she creates today and in fact the thing that got Sophie on the map in the boxing ring.

Fight Label began with their debut pair of designer shorts for Amir Khan, with headlines describing them as the "most expensive pair of shorts ever" and estimated at £30,000, it's fair to say these shorts made quite an entrance.

Having captured the attention of boxers all over the world for their 'bespoke and couture experience' Fight Label has now designed for hundreds of fights including the big names like Mayweather, Anthony Joshua, KSI etc.

“It’s not about being famous, it’s about being the best. I want to work with the best people in their field. The shorts looked brilliant and we’d made them expecting Floyd to take the Plein offer. It’s incredible that we are a part of boxing history and in the stories of each of our clients.”

On top of this Fight Label have designed for on screen as well, with designs featuring in Creed II, the eighth film in the Rocky franchise, and Journeyman adding even more to their already incredibly established CV.

“What we do at Fight Label is a little reprieve from all that, it can let you focus on yourself and how you want to present yourself to the world. I want them to put the shorts on and feel like a million dollars, nobody at Fight Label is an S, M or L, it's a bespoke and couture experience.”

I love the way this brutal sport can be influenced simply by how the way you dress can make you feel. The idea that a boxer's performance can be influenced by the way he looks and therefore feels adds a whole new dimension to the sport that's already so much about mind games.
